When I decided to move to Atlanta, it was not the most exciting thing to me. I didn't get into Hampton University, so Clark Atlanta was not only my second choice, but the best choice I have ever made in my life. Although it has been an interesting year...I have been able to grow both as a women & as a student. This year flew by, and the memories I have will stick with me forever.
First off, I would not have made it through this year without my cousin...my best friend...my sister...Sara. Yeah, we have our ups and downs but at the end of the day we BOTH knew that we had eachothers backs. I never really appreciated our relatiopnship until I moved down here and realized that it was just us two. I feel like we have finally reached the point where we see eye to eye, and respect eachother as adults. We still fuss & fight, but our blood is think enough to stand the test of time!!! I love you girl! When I got to Atlanta there was alot of things that I experienced for the first time, tornados being one of them! On March 14th 2008 Atlanta was hit was a level EF2 tornado. The storm took the lives of two people, and cost the city over $150 million dollars in repairs. This just might have been the scariest thing that has ever happened to me! It was time like this that I would say "if I was in Boston this would NOT be happening!" First of all...People outside of Georgia knew about this tornado before we did. We we watched the news the week prior to it hitting they didn't mention anything about a tornado warning...Not even the day BEFORE it! It wasn't until March 14th that we found out, and by then it was too late...The Ga Dome had the wall ripped open, the Westin Hotel (as well as others) had the windows blown out, and we had no electricity, shoot, it even cracked my window! Crazy right? It is now over a month later...and as I look out my cracked window that has not been repaired, I notice the wood panels in the blown out windows...I wonder when the city plans on putting that $150 million dollars of repair to work!
And then there was the infamous T.I. story...*
An Atlanta native, rapper T.I. was arrested on federal gun charges hours before he was scheduled preformance at the BET awards. People who don't live in Atlanta are unable to see the amount of stupidity in this act. When he made his "transaction" at an Atlanta Publix (supermarket) people are unaware that not only was it in downtown Atlanta...but it was 1 block away from the BET awards...And to make matters worse, American Gangster was set to open up weeks after is arrest... After spending quite some time under house arrest the rapper was sentenced to 1,000 hours of community service preaching about nonviolence (Dammmn!) and after all that up to a year in prison.
I met Soulja Boy...We did some promo work at the CAU homecoming. (Shoutout to Tiger Ent)
There were so many other things that happened this year that would take me years to explain but heres just a a few things...
*Keyshia Cole moves to Atlanta, and films her reality show "The way it is" which was a major hit!
- BET Awards were filmed in Atlanta, at the Atlanta Civic Center.
- Michael Vick dog fights scandel....didnt really affect me much.
The year has finally come to an end, and I am heading back to Boston. I am looking forward to the summer! See you all in the fall!
